Meet Kellie Farmer POSY Florals

Meet Kellie

Farmer, Founder, and Flower Aficionado

Hello there flower friends, I’m Kellie and I’m thrilled you stopped by. Like many of you, I am a backyard gardener at my core, and nature lover at heart. I’ve planted a little garden in every rental property I’ve lived in and was an active member of the Worcester Street Community Garden in Boston’s South End for many years. The joy of watching plants grow from seed to stem to flower to fruit has always captivated me and enticed me to keep learning more. Sharing the bounty of what I grow with others is the sweetest reward a gardener like me can experience. I wanted more of that feeling, so I started POSY Florals in my backyard in 2021 as a mid-life challenge to experience what it would feel like to leave the corporate Biotech world and truly put my passion for plants & flowers front and center.

Through the support of my North Shore community, a few fantastic Florists, and a lot of love (and physical labor), POSY has become a thriving flower farm serving over 100 CSA members and many local florists on a regular basis. Just like my baby seedlings, I am growing into the Farmer role and continue to learn lessons about farming on a daily basis. With Mother Nature as my only boss, I’ve learned that farming is NOT for the faint of heart! My favorite flowers to grow are the early spring blooms: Tulips, Anemones and Ranunculus.

When I’m not farming flowers, I like to cook, craft, and spend time with my partner Domi, traveling to warmer locales for scuba, kayaking on the ocean or hiking around in the forest.

Britt florist Team POSY Florals

Meet Britt

Lead Florist

Britt is a passionate florist with nearly a decade of wedding, event, holiday, and retail experience in her back pocket. Her aesthetic is natural, colorful, and modern- a perfect complement to POSY’s seasonal blooms. Each week, Britt designs our beautiful CSA bouquets. In addition to heading our weddings and events, she also works on our flower farm planting, harvesting, and yes, even weeding! When she’s not in the fields or the studio, she can be found at Sage Floral Studio in Gloucester, MA. She lives in Marblehead with her husband and two children. Britt's favorite flowers are: daffodils, peonies, and chamomile.

Meet José

Field Lead

José joined our farm in Spring of 2023 and we don’t know how we got by without him. José brings 15+ years of commercial flower farming experience from his home country of Guatemala. His passion for flowers matches ours and his favorite flowers are Roses, which he may someday convince us to grow on our farm. José has taught us so much about farming and plant & soil health and we are grateful to have him on our team. José lives in Lynn, has two beautiful children and enjoys playing soccer in his spare time.

Meet Sarah

Harvest & Planting Lead

Sarah Joined POSY in July of 2023 to help with our harvest and has become an integral part of our team. Sarah is a gardener, nature lover and fellow Floret Workshop alumni. Sarah lives in Salem and is also growing her own cut flower farm Minnow Meadows in her spare time. Sarah is a total Dahlia aficionado, through her passion and encouragement, we plan to expand our Dahlias offering in 2024.

Meet Domi

Meet Domi, Kellie’s partner in love and life, moonlights as the chief water engineer and head builder at POSY. He builds whatever is needed, tends to all irrigation, and most crucially provides the moral support Kellie counts on to keep going and keep growing!

The ‘Slow Flowers’ Movement

Kellie’s flower farming passion led her to discover Debra Prinzing’s work establishing the Slow Flowers Movement, which is gaining ground in the floral industry. With organizations like the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers (ASCFG) and Floret Farmer-Florist Collective, Kellie found the amazing, collaborative, community of Farmer-Florists sustainably growing and offering locally-grown flowers to their respective communities.

Loosely defined, the “Slow Flowers” Movement strives to: reestablish the human connections between local farmers, florists, and customers, emphasize sustainable growing methods and florist materials
bring transparency to the industry.

As Kellie learned more about the environmental and human impact of working with flowers grown and transported from around the world, she felt even more committed to sourcing only locally-grown flowers and sustainably growing as much as possible with her own two hands in her own backyard!
